Background: I have been in the teaching profession for 5 years. Prior to joining Las Brisas, I taught 5th/6th grade in the Deer Valley District for one year, and taught a 6th grade home room/5th grade integrated curriculum at a Private School. I hold two Masters Degrees: A Master of Arts in Elementary Education, and a Master of Global Management-International Business degree. MORRISON'S MEMOS

I am your child‚s 6th grade teacher, and I am delighted to have your child in my class this year. I am looking forward to a very successful year and I know you are too. I have high expectations for your child and I will do all that I can to help your child achieve those expectations.

You can help. I will be expecting all work assigned in class to be completed. Of course, all children do not work at the same pace. Some children will get their work done in class and some will not. Whether or not your child gets his or her work done in class has no effect on their grade. If your child does not complete an assignment in class, he or she will be required to complete it at home. The way you can help is to ask your child every school day if schoolwork needs to be done, and if so, make sure your child completes the assignment.

I want you to know that one of my most important goals this year is to keep the lines of communication open with you. My website: http://cmorrison.myteacher.dvusd.com is updated frequently as to the Important dates for the month. Also, the "Homework/Projects" link is updated daily. You will find all classwork and homework assignments listed with due dates. Your child will also receive a daily planner that should have the same information; students will be responsible for the information in their planners on a daily basis.

Here is a suggested supply list:

7 2 pocket folders (one for each subject)

Set of Colored Pencils

2-3 Highlighters

#2 Pencils

Set of Markers

Scissors

*NOTE: Many assignments can/will be done on the computer and your child may wish to work on his/her computer at home. I've found that a USB Memory Stick (aka Thumb Drive) is a great tool! Students are able to work on both the school computer as well as at home without having to re-type/re-do any parts of the assignment.

Following are some needed classroom supplies...any donations are gratefully accepted!:

PLEASE NOTE: Since parents can now access all grade information on-line, I will only send a printed progress report upon request and for mid-term progress reports. PLEASE ACCESS YOUR CHILD'S INFORMATION!!! A few things to note when reviewing online grades:

When you are reviewing specific assignments, be aware of the following "key codes" that may appear--

mi = Missing assignment (i.e., past due)

p = Pending (student has spoken with me and we've agreed upon a future date for turn in)

ab = Absent when assignment was due; student should turn in asap or upon agreed upon date with teacher

r = Received not yet graded, but has been turned in

( ) = Future assignment; not yet due

Monitoring and reviewing your child's assignment notebook DAILY is an important part of helping your student. NOTE: YOUR CHILD IS NOW RESPONSIBLE FOR WRITING ASSIGNMENTS IN THEIR NOTEBOOK/PLANNER.
